Send poems, prayers and promises

23 10 2008

The day it all began! Ironically, also one of my fav rents pics.

My mom went under the knife today for back surgery. Thanks to everyone who’s sent prayers and positive thoughts for phase 1 (evaluation) and phase 2 (operation). We’re now heading boldly into uncharted waters … recoveryation … or in other words, “Mom, sit STILL.” It’s my father who will need the prayers for that one (though I’ve recommended hard restraints as a more effective measure).

Seriously though. If you want to send a card, she’d love to hear from you — email if you don’t have their address & I’ll set you up. Alternatively, e-hugs delivered via comment to this blog post can be shared as well… so positive thoughts in any form are greatly appreciated.

Hi All,
I thought this poem might be just what is needed for everyone to get a good night sleep during the recoveryation phase.

Part of a Legacy

I take pillows outdoors to sun them
as my mother did. “Keeps bedding fresh,”
she said. It was April then, too—
buttercups fluffing their frail sails,
one striped bee humming grudges, a crinkle
of jonquils. Weeds reclaimed bare ground.
All of these leaked somehow
into the pillows, looking odd where they
simmered all day, the size of hams, out of place
on grass. And at night I could feel
some part of my mother still with me
in the warmth of my face as I dreamed
baseball and honeysuckle, sleeping
on sunlight.
Frank Steele

Love and sweet dreams,
Dottie

Carolyn, your friendship has been priceless to us; so I send this poem.

The Priceless Friend

Searching the world for riches,
Possessing wealth or fame,
Cannot fill the void within us:
Our heart, alone, in pain.

To find a friend who loves us,
Through weather foul or fair,
A friend who’s like a brother,
We know is always there.

A friend is far more priceless
Than jewels, wealth, or fame,
Someone who warms heart and soul,
And through the years remains.
by Anita Corrine Donihue

Though our friendship has been but a few years, we treasure it. We pray for our Lord’s quick healing and freedom from pain.
Love, Jose and Ginny

Glad you are in recovery mode and that all indications point to a successful outcome. As a too recent surgery victim, I know the sense of relief when it’s over. Part of the recovery is good attitude and good care. Can’t speak for my attitude (was not always great) but superior I received made up for it and then some. I am sure you are receiving Triple A+ care and no doubt your ever positive attitude will expedite the recovery even faster.

I’ll spare you my attempts at poetry which would set your recovery and English literature back an eon or two. Chaucer I am not……

Talk to you soon.

Carolyn, we don’t know if you are out of the hospital yet (Mon. 10/27); but our prayers are still with you several times a day. We ask that your pain will be alleviated and your recovery quick.
Take care and be obedient in the doctor’s orders!
Love, Ginny

YAY – thanks everyone!! She’s home now and on the mend. I hope to get pics of her in red walker when I head up there this weekend. Until then, know she’s resting .. a lot .. and, the doctor says, recovering nicely. Thanks again for all the kind words! She’s been reading print outs of these posts & they’ve been bringing smiles (and even a tear) to her eyes.

Carolyn,
I just read Becky’s update, and am so glad that you’re home at last. I’m sorry that the procedure was a bit more complicated than you expected, but it sounds like all your new parts will make you unstoppable in the near future! So, for now, rest, relax and relish all the pampering that Paul is providing. Hope to see soon and until then…..

Now that the surgery’s done
Carolyn is ready and raring for fun
Bring on that red chair
Try to stop her? Don’t dare!
In no time she’ll be on the run!!

Love,
Jan (and Phil, too)

If was wonderful to talk with you yesterday! Yeah! for the miracles of medicine these days. Wish we were closer, I’d give you a run for your money on our walkers! Take care and keep getting better. Take advantage of the rest and pampering, won’t be long before Paul wants his share of pampering again!
Love, Ginny
